Bio

Since becoming the head coach in 2007, Enzo Fuschino has taken the program to new heights. He is second in program history with an all-time record of 116-75-19 and has guided the program to eight winning seasons, including three trips to the NCAA National tournament (2008 first in school history). Under Fuschino, the Pioneers men’s soccer program has posted a home record of 56-24-7.

Fuschino coached both the men’s and women’s programs until the 2010 season. In 2010, the women’s team posted an 11-9-2 record. The Pioneers were above the .500 mark for the first time in four years and the third time in 13 years. They finished fifth in WIAC play for the highest finish ever and advanced beyond the first round in conference tournament play for the first time in the program’s history. Under Fuschino, six members of the women’s team earned all–WIAC honors and the team earned two NSCAA sportsmanship awards and an NSCAA team academic award.

The 2008, 2012 and 2017 campaigns were some of the best in program history and were highlighted by records and great results. In 2008 the program made its first historical appearance in the NCAA tournament and advanced past the first round. The team finished with 14 wins and was ranked 23rd nationally. In 2012 the men’s team won the WIAC conference title for the first time in school history, and led the conference in points and goals against average. It recorded 15 wins (the highest in school history) and 10 shutouts (second most in school history). The team was selected to the NCAA tournament for the second time under Fuschino and reached the “NCAA Sweet 16”. In addition, coach Fuschino was selected Conference, State and NSCAA North region coach of the year. The team was a regular presence in both the NSCAA and NCAA regional and national rankings. In 2012 they finished the season ranked #15 in the NSCAA National poll. In 2017 the season was highlighted by great results and the third selection for the NCAA tournament. The team finished the regular season with a record of 11-3-2, made it to the second round of the NCAA playoffs with a 5-0 win over Westminster College of Missouri and finished ranked 7th in the United Soccer Association North region.

Under Fuschino, 29 athletes have been selected to the WIAC All-conference team, 15 made the NSCAA North All-Region team, 29 the All-State team, two All-Time WIAC Conference athletes, four WIAC players of the year, five NSCAA North Scholar All-Region, one NSCAA Scholar All-American, six CoSIDA Academic All-District, and two CoSIDA All-Americans. Fuschino has been selected “State Coach of the Year” three times (2012, 2015, 2017).

In his first season, Fuschino led the Pioneers to its first undefeated home season in the history of the program. The Pioneers beat NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier UW-Oshkosh 2-1 for the first time in 20 years (as well as ending an 18-game losing streak), bringing home the Fred Eberlein trophy.

Prior to coming to UW-Platteville, Fuschino was the boys’ head coach at Madison LaFollette HS from 2001 to 2006 (where he posted winning seasons every year), and previously served as the Lancers’ girls’ coach. In addition, he coached both the boys and girls program at Stoughton High School from 1996 to 1999, posting the first-ever conference wins in their history. He was previously an assistant coach for the Madison 56ers NPSL team and a state coach for the ODP program. Fuschino has also coached several successful club teams, including the Princeton Soccer Club and the Madison 56ers in the Midwest Regional Leagues and National Premiere Leagues. Fuschino currently coaches the Madison 56ers U18/19 NPL premiere boys’ team and won the 2013 State Championship. He has been also actively involved with the Madison Futsal Academy and the Madison Forge Futsal (where he won a National Championship in 2015).

He played for the Unione Sportiva Melizzano in the Amateur Italian League from 1980 to 1985 and for A.S. Arbia from 1986 to 1989. Fuschino, who moved to the United States in 1989, earned his bachelor’s degree in French and Italian at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1994 and his master’s degree in Italian Literature from UW-Madison in 1997. Fuschino taught Italian, Latin and Classical Mythology at LaFollette HS, where he earned recognition as teacher of the month on three occasions. In addition to coaching soccer, he also has teaching responsibilities at UW-Platteville. Fuschino holds an NSCAA National Diploma and a USSF “B” License.

Fuschino and his wife, Jennifer, have two daughters, Maria and Jessie.
