Pioneers fall in final minutes of double overtime
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team battled it out with UW-Whitewater for over 108 minutes before falling 1-0 in double overtime Saturday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team battled it out with UW-Whitewater for over 108 minutes before falling 1-0 in double overtime at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Saturday's Shaymus Guinn Cup remained evenly matched and scoreless as UW-Platteville (3-5-2 overall) and UW-Whitewater (11-1-1) entered second overtime.
The Warhawks held a slight advantage on shots 13-11 overall with five on goal for UW-Whitewater and six on goal for the Pioneers. Freshman Jack Gentilli had a team high three shots while UW-Whitewater's Henry Raymonds led the Warhawks with four shots.
Senior Nate Miller tallied four saves while counterpart Jake King totaled six saves for the Warhawks.
The game winning goal by Garrett Morgando found the bottom left corner with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime and secured the Shaymus Guinn Cup would remain with the Warhawks.
Every year, the Pioneers and Warhawks compete in memory of Shaymus Guinn, the son of UW-Whitewater's head coach and UW-Platteville men's soccer alum, Tony Guinn. Prior to the game beginning, the teams joined in a moment of silence recognizing families who have and are battling childhood cancer.
The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. when they host Wartburg in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
