Pioneers defeat Concordia Chicago 89-72 to remain undefeated
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (4-0) remains undefeated and extended its winning streak to four with an 89-72 victory over Concordia University Chicago (0-2) on Bo Ryan Court. Junior Quentin Shields dished out 24 points while four other Pioneers hit double digits.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (4-0) remains undefeated and extended its winning streak to four with an 89-72 victory over Concordia University Chicago (0-2) on Bo Ryan Court. Junior Quentin Shields dished out 24 points while four other Pioneers hit double digits.
First half
- The Pioneers and Cougars got off to a slow start tallying just 13 points combined in the first five minutes of play.
- Concordia took a 5-4 lead at 17:03 until the Pioneers reclaimed the lead, 25-24, with 6:05 left in the fist half. The Pioneers would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
- Overall, the Pioneers shot 40.0% (12-of-30) from the field while the Cougars shot 42.3% (11-of-26) in the first half.
- UW-Platteville entered halftime leading Concordia 38-32.
Second half
- Shields totaled three steals and racked up 15 points in the second half which included going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Senior Carter Voelker also knocked down 10 points in the half.
- UW-Platteville's largest lead of 18 fell at 7:33 when the Pioneers went on a 28-16 run.
- The Pioneers shot 57.1% (16-of-28) from the field and 44.4% (4-of-9) from three-point range while Concordia shot 42.4% (14-of-33) from the field and just 14.3% (1-of-7) from behind the three-point arc.
Notables
- UW-Platteville improved to 4-0 on the season.
- Concordia fell to 0-2.
- The Pioneers totaled 36 points from the reserves to Concordia's 17.
- Passing 20 points for the second game in a row, Shields finished with 24 points and added a team high eight assists and four steals.
- Voelker finished with 15 points and pulled down a team high eight rebounds.
- Sophomore Blake McCann added another 15 points and went 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
- Also reaching double digits for the Pioneers were junior Justin Jarvensivu with 11 points and sophomore Kyle Tuma with 10.
- UW-Platteville finished 48.3% (28-of-58) from the field and shot 30.0% (6-of-20) from beyond the three-point arc. Concordia finished 25-of-59 (42.4%) and 25.0% (5-of-20) from the three-point line.
- The Pioneers were 79.4% from the free throw line making 27-of-34 while the Cougars shot 60.7% (17-of-28).
