Pioneers handle Finlandia in season opener at home

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a 112-49 win over Finlandia University (0-1) on Bo Ryan Court Sunday afternoon. UW-Platteville had 17 different Pioneers score points in the game and sophomore Blake McCann led all scorers with 16 points in 15 minutes.
First half
- It was a fast start for the Pioneers who took their first double digit lead at 12-2 with less than three minutes into the game.
- The Pioneers shot 61.1% (22-of-36) from the field and 85.7 % from the free throw line (12-of-14) in the first half.
- Sophomore Kyle Tuma led all scorers with nine points in the first half.
- The Pioneer reserves contributed 31 points in the first half which matched the Pioneer starters.
Second half
- McCann scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half.
- The Lions were held to a 22.6% team shooting percentage in the second half.
- The Pioneers shot 45.5% from three point range (5-of-11).
- The Pioneers outrebounded the Lions 32-10 including ten offensive rebounds.

- UW-Platteville improved to 1-0 on the season.
- Finlandia University fell to 0-1.
- The Pioneers outshot the Lions 54.1% to 26.6% from the field.
- Reserves accounted for 72 of the Pioneers' 112 points.
- Junior Quentin Shields led the team with five assists and added nine points in just 13 minutes.
- Junior Justin Fox grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pioneers and added seven points.
- Junior Justin Jarvensivu was the other Pioneer to score double digits and finished with 10 points.
