A record setting performance Saturday night had Pioneer fans leaving Williams Fieldhouse happy as UW-Platteville downed UW-Stout 86-69. A combined 16 three's fell for the Pioneers, tying a school record they set earlier this year against Simpson.
Robert Duax topped all scorers with 19, with 17 coming in the first half. Trey Sigel knocked down four shots from behind the arc and finished with a season high 16 points. In all, nine players made a three for a UW-Platteville team that shot over 51 percent from deep.
The Blue Devils got an early 6-0 lead, but the Pioneers responded by going on a 29-4 run that spanned just over six minutes. UW-Stout pulled back within 11, but a Jake Showalter layup at the end of the half had UW-Platteville up 43-26 at the break.
In the second half UW-Stout cut the lead to 13 early before UW-Platteville followed up by connecting on eight three's in under 10 minutes. The flurry was capped off by Alex Ranney who pushed the lead to 30 at 73-43 with eight minutes remaining.
The large lead provided reserves an opportunity to get valuable court time as eight Pioneers came off the bench to see four or more minutes of action.
