Men's Basketball Grounds Eagles on Senior Day
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville men’s basketball team tallied five double-figure scorers in the Pioneers, 77-70, victory over UW-La Crosse on Senior Day in Williams Fieldhouse on Saturday.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team tallied five double-figure scorers in the Pioneers, 77-70, victory over UW-La Crosse on Senior Day in Williams Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Sophomore Jake Manning led the Pioneers with 21 points and eight rebounds. Manning went 7-10 from the floor and 6-7 from the free throw line. Fellow sophomore Jim Stocki went 8-9 from the charity stripe for 15 points. Juniors Eric Gerber and Chas Cross scored 13 and 10, respectively while senior Rob Stallion added 12 points and five rebounds.
The Eagles' Lucas Morrissey netted a game-high 23 points, while Trent Schmidt was the only other UWL player to score in double digits with 10.
The Pioneers led the Eagles, 27-23, with just over three minutes to play in the half. Senior Rob Stallion and Manning helped give UW-Platteville a 37-26 lead at halftime by scoring the Pioneers' final 10 points of the half.
The Eagles brought it to a five-point game, 62-57, off a layup by Lucas Collom with just over four minutes to play. UW-Platteville stopped UWL's comeback with a 7-0 run, started by a three-pointer from Stallion and finished by a pair of free throws from Gerber giving the Pioneers a 12-point lead, 69-57 with just over two minutes to play. The Eagles made some key shots in the final two minutes keeping the pressure on the Pioneers, but UW-Platteville made its free throws down the stretch earning the 77-70 victory.
The Pioneers wrap up the regular season with a trip to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. against the Blugolds in Zorn Arena.
