UW-Stout Slips Past Men's Basketball, 53-50

MENOMONIE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team led for nearly 39 minutes but 17 turnovers was one too many as UW-Stout slipped past the Pioneers, 53-50, on Saturday afternoon in Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers led the entire first-half and took a commanding 12-4 lead in the opening eight minutes. The Blue Devils stopped the Pioneers from running away with the game and went on a 8-0 run, tying it up at 12-12 with 8:40 left in the half. UW-Platteville managed to take a 28-24 lead into halftime with Chas Cross nearly earning a double-double in the opening half with nine rebounds and eight points.
Cross led the Pioneers with his second straight double-double and his fifth of the season with his 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Winnebago, Ill. native, went 5-8 from the floor and 6-7 from the charity stripe. Eric Gerber was the only other Pioneer to score in double figures with 11 points. UW-Stout's Hortman led the team with 17 points and Oman was the only other Blue Devil to score double figures with 15 points.
The Pioneers stay on the road and travel to UW-Whitewater on Wednesday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
