Gerber and Cross Lead the Pioneers Past Falcons, 84-71
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The junior duo of Chas Cross and Eric Gerber scored half of the UW-Platteville men's basketball team's points in a 84-71 victory over UW-River Falls on Saturday in the Williams Fieldhouse on Bo Ryan Court.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The junior duo of Chas Cross and Eric Gerber scored half of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team's points in the 84-71 victory over UW-River Falls on Saturday afternoon in the Williams Fieldhouse.
Cross tied a career-high 27 points as Gerber recorded a career-best six field goals for 15 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Sophomore Jim Stocki netted 14 points and senior Rob Stallion scored 12.
The Falcons' Arik Smith drained six of seven from beyond the arc, scoring a game-high 28 points, while UT Udo rounded out the Falcons' top scorers with nine points.
The Pioneers managed to take their largest lead of the first-half 22-16 with just over eight and half minutes left, before UWRF used a three-minute 10-0 run earning a 26-22 advantage. Both teams traded blows in the final five minutes and a layup by UW-Platteville's Jake Manning tied the game up at 30-30 to go into halftime.
A pair of three-pointers by the Falcons to open the second-half gave UWRF its largest lead of the game, 36-30. A three-point-play the hard way by Gerber gave the Pioneers the lead for good, 59-58, at the 7:32 mark. The Pioneers held the Falcons to just one point in the final 2:27 earning the 84-71 victory.
UW-Platteville returns to action on Wednesday when they welcome seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point to Bo Ryan Court. Tip is set for 7 p.m. for the Pioneers' Orange Out Game.
