Pioneers Finish Season with 18-13 Slugfest Victory Over Dubuque

University of Wisconsin-Platteville bounced back from an early 4-0 deficit in an 18-13 slugfest victory over Dubuque on Sunday afternoon in the season finale at Kendall Murray Field.

The Pioneers (11-29) plated six runs in the first inning and eight more in the fifth in the win. Tyler Jacobson, Trevor Kattre and Brad Milka each had four hits for UW-Platteville to overshadow Dubuque shortstop Andrew Danna, who hit for the cycle in the loss.

Brad MilkaJacobson, Kattre, and Milka contributed to a season-high 17 hit attack in the win. Milka drove in a season-high five runs to go along with four runs scored to pace UW-Platteville. Kattre and Jacobson had four and three RBIs, respectively.

UW-Platteville head coach Eric Frese used four pitchers in the win, including Justin Crotty, who pitched the first 6 1/3 innings and struck out six in the win to conclude his senior campaign with a 4-6 record.

Dubuque (19-20) got the four hits from Danna, who also drove in three in the loss. The Spartans plated four runs in the first inning until the Pioneers clawed back into the game with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to set the stage for the slugfest. Nathan Lucas and Aaron Laskowski each had multiple hits but it was starter Kyle Staats, who gave up six hits and eight runs - seven earned in a losing cause.

UW-Platteville eventually stretched the lead to as much as 12, 16-4 when they plated a season-high eight runs in the fifth inning. Milka had two of his four hits in the inning, including a RBI single. The Spartans would cut into the deficit with a pair of four-run innings in the seventh and ninth.
