Offense Gets Going As Pioneers Beat Eagles
VERONA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (8-13) put together 13 runs of offense to beat Edgewood (12-9) 13-3 on Friday evening from Stampfl Field in Verona.

The game was scoreless for the first three innings until the Pioneers broke through with a trio of runs in the top half of the fourth inning. Junior Grant Bossert led off with a double down the left field line and sophomore Mason Molitor brought him home with a single to centerfield. Senior Jake Wegner then stepped up and delivered a two-run home run to right field.
Junior Justin Fago made it 4-0 in favor of UW-Platteville in the top of the fifth with an RBI single before Edgewood answered with a three-run bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit down to one.
The Pioneers responded with five runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 9-3. Two runs scored on a throwing error before junior Slate Higa brought home junior Chris Tsouras with a sacrifice fly. Bossert drove in another run with a single, and the final run of the inning scored on a fielder's choice.
UW-Platteville put the game out of reach with another four runs in the seventh inning as Higa, sophomore Caleb Parker, Fago, and Molitor all drove in runs in the frame.
The Pioneers totaled 13 hits in the game, with Fago pacing the team with three hits. Parker, Bossert, Wegner, and Tsouras each recorded two hits, and seven different players recorded at least one RBI in the game.
On the mound, senior Mitchell Pomeroy improved to 3-0 on the season after allowing three runs (two earned) across six innings of work. He struck out five batters, while walking none and giving up seven hits.
The Pioneers will host the final two games of the season series against UW-Whitewater next Wednesday afternoon. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
