Pioneers Drop Game To Blugolds Friday
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (7-15, 4-9 WIAC) dropped one game against UW-Eau Claire (6-13, 1-8 WIAC) on Friday afternoon by score of 21-13 on the first annual Marc Heidorf Memorial Game. Game two of today was delayed in the sixth inning and will be resumed tomorrow morning.

Game two of today was delayed in the sixth inning and will be resumed tomorrow morning.
After the Pioneers scored first in the bottom of the second inning, UW-Eau Claire answered with three runs in the top half of the third inning. Freshman Mason Molitor got one back for UW-Platteville in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly and junior Jake Wegner put the Pioneers in front 5-3 with a three-run home run in the fourth.
The Blugolds tallied four runs in the fifth to take a two-run lead, but RBI singles by sophomore Justin Fago and Molitor evened the game at seven heading into the seventh. UW-Eau Claire found lots of success in the final three innings scoring once in the seventh before adding six in the eighth and seven more in the ninth. The Pioneers scored three times in both the eighth and the ninth, but the Blugolds won game one 21-13.
UW-Platteville totaled 15 hits in the game, with six players recording multiple. Junior Hunter Hopkins led the team with three hits while scoring three times while senior Grant Mullins went 2-for-5 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Fago, Molitor, and Wegner combined to drive in 10 runs in the game.
Junior Josh Belgrave was handed the loss but threw 2.2 innings while striking out four.
Game two was delayed in the sixth inning due to lack of daylight. It will be resumed early tomorrow morning. The Pioneers currently lead 14-9.
Along with the resumed game from today, the Pioneers will play two more games against UW-Eau Claire tomorrow for Senior Day.
