Pioneers win three of four against Eureka
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (3-3) played a pair of double headers on Saturday and Sunday. The Pioneers split the Saturday games with a 5-16 loss and a 5-3 win. The Pioneers won both Sunday games with an 8-5 win and a 12-10 win.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (3-3) played a pair of double headers against Eureka (5-5) on Saturday and Sunday. The Pioneers split the Saturday games with a 5-16 loss and a 5-3 win. The Pioneers won both Sunday games with an 8-5 win and a 12-10 win.
Saturday: Game One
Key Moments
- The Red Devils took a 7-0 lead before the Pioneers scored four runs to bring the score to 7-4.
- The Red Devils broke open the game with seven runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to take a 16-4 lead.
At the Plate
- Freshman Adam Gutshcow went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
- Senior Josh Moses drove in two runs with a bases loaded single in the second inning.
On the Mound
- Sophomore Jared Carney (0-1) took the loss for the Pioneers allowing five earned runs in one inning.
- Sophomore Ryan Pieczko pitched the final 3.2 innings with zero runs allowed.

Key Moments
- Moses homered in the bottom of the third to put the Pioneers on the board with a 2-1 lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman Wyatt Molitor reached on an error which scored freshman Jason Adams and sophomore Ryan Vogel to give the Pioneers a 4-2 lead.

- Moses went 1-for-3 and a walk with two RBI and one run scored.
- Adams went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
On the Mound
- Freshman Sam Hernandez (1-0) earned the win for the Pioneers. Hernandez pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs.
- Junior Michael Greco pitched four scoreless innings to earn the save (1). Greco recorded six strikeouts.
Sunday: Game One
Key Moments
- Gutshcow extended the Pioneers lead to 4-0 with a 2-run double in the third inning.
- The Red Devils scored two runs in the third inning and senior Braxton Ary's three-run home run gave the Red Devils a 5-4 lead.
- In the fifth inning, sophomore Garrett Gillund singled in a run to tie the game and 5-5.
- Junior Jonathan Kelso scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
At the Plate
- Gillund went 3-for-5 with a walk and one run scored.
- Kelso and Adams had two hits and scored two runs each.
- Freshman Mitchell McLaughlin went 2-for-4 with a walk and one RBI.
On the Mound
- Freshman Jacob Berendes threw the first four innings allowing five earned runs.
- Junior Ian Schildgen (1-0) earned the win with five scoreless innings to finish the game.
Sunday: Game Two
Key Moments
- McLaughlin doubled in two runs, junior Brendon Reifsteck drove in one run and Adams drove in one run to give the Pioneers a 6-2 lead after two innings.
- After four innings, the Red Devils had an 8-6 lead.
- Vogel gave the Pioneers a 10-9 lead with a 2-run, bases loaded single in the ninth inning.
- Down 7-9 entering the ninth inning, the Pioneers scored five runs to take a 12-9 lead.
At the Plate
- Reifsteck went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
- Vogel went 2-for-3 with one walk, three runs scored and two RBI.
- McLaughlin went 1-for-3 including a double with two walks, two runs scored and two RBI.
On the Mound
- Junior Samuel Peters earned the win, allowing two earns runs in the final six innings and recording nine strikeouts.
- Freshman Zach Lieb and Gillund allowed eight earned runs before Peters entered in the fourth inning.
