Four Pioneers earn WIAC honors
Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer baseball players earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for 2017.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis – Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer baseball players earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for 2017.
Colton Bormann was awarded a spot on the 22-person all-WIAC first team. Colin DeBoer and Josh Moses both scored honorable mention titles, and James Pavlik was named to the all-sportsmanship team.
In conference play, Bormann, a junior right-handed pitcher from Preston, Iowa, had an earned run average of 2.79 in 29 innings pitched. He also recorded 16 strikeouts on the season in 42.2 overall innings pitched.
DeBoer, a senior outielder from Brandon, Wisconsin (Waupun), had a season batting average of .303, with 17 extra base hits and 19 RBIs. In conference, DeBoer had a .971 fielding percentage.
Moses, a freshman right fielder from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, had an overall batting average of .354 with 25 extra base hits and 30 RBIs. In both conference and overall play, Moses recorded a perfect fielding percentage. He also recorded the first-ever cycle in Pioneer history during the year.
Pavlik, a senior infielder from La Grange, Illinois (Lyons Township), had an overall batting average of .275 with 10 extra base hits and 18 RBIs.
UW-Platteville finished the season with an overall record of 19-21, including 4-16 in the WIAC. The Pioneers are coached by Eric Frese, who just finished his 11th season with program.
