Pioneers split with #6 Warhawks
Taylor Christopher drove in UW-Platteville's final three runs, leading the Pioneers past host and sixth-ranked UW-Whitewater 5-3 and earning a split in Friday's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Warhawks won the opener 10-0.

Taylor Christopher drove in UW-Platteville's final three runs, leading the Pioneers past host and sixth-ranked UW-Whitewater 5-3 and earning a split in Friday's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Warhawks won the opener 10-0.
The Pioneers overcame a 3-1 deficit to pull the upset. Jim Pavlik hit a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning, bringing the visitors within 3-2. Christopher was then hit by a pitch, tying the scoring. Christopher added an RBI single in the seventh and another in the ninth for the win.
Cal Krafcheck threw seven innings of four-hit ball for the win, with Scottie Gordon holding the lead with a hitless eighth and Colton Bormann earning the save with two strikeouts and a ground out in the ninth.
Heath Renz went the distance for the Warhawks in the opener, holding the Pioneers to four hits over seven innings.
The Pioneers are now 18-16 overall and 3-11 in the WIAC, while the Warhawks sit at 24-6, 11-3. The same two teams are scheduled to play another doubleheader Saturday at UWW, beginning at noon.
