PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team lost its final game of its spring break Florida trip 3-0 to the University of Western New England Golden Bears. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 5-4 on the season and moved the Golden Bears to 8-2. Nathan Fay started on the mound for the Pioneers and Paul Wetmore started for the Golden Bears.
The game began as a pitching duel between Fay and Wetmore, with neither team being able to gain momentum for the first three innings. Ben LaCroix broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a lead off homerun. The Pioneers were unable to get on the board as Wetmore was able to keep the team off balance at the plate for most of the game, striking out eight and allowing only two hits in seven innings.
Western New England added two runs in the bottom of the eighth on an Aaron Rios single which scored Jared Rosenblatt and Kevin Johnson, giving the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead. Jacques Boilard got the final three outs to pick up his fourth save of the season.
