PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team traveled to Appleton, Wisconsin to take on Lawrence University in doubleheader action on Tuesday. The Pioneers came back with both wins, taking the first game 5-1 and the finale 10-7. UW-Platteville is now 15-16 on the season.
After going up 3-0 after the second inning, the Pioneers held their lead throughout the rest of the game, Lawrence scoring its lone run in the bottom of the third.
The Pioneers ended the first game in fashion, recording a triple play in the final inning of play to take the 5-1 win. Senior George Jester III played well in the game, logging two hits in just three at-bats, including a double and one RBI.
In the nightcap, the Pioneers took the early 3-1 lead, but fell behind in the third 4-3. The Pioneers had a big fourth and fifth inning, jumping ahead 8-6 off a wild Lawrence pitch and a couple singles.
After holding Lawrence to zero runs in the fifth, the Pioneers added another run in the sixth off a senior Casey Schroeder single to right field that brought in senior Todd Wienkes to add another run to their 9-6 lead.
The Pioneers added another run off a fielding error in the final inning of play, and Lawrence responded with one of its own, but UW-Platteville held its lead and took the 10-7 win.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 27 at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin at 7 p.m.
