Pioneer Baseball Swept by Millsaps
The UW-Platteville baseball team fell to Millsaps College, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Twenty Field in Jackson, Miss.
JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team fell to Millsaps College, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Twenty Field in Jackson, Miss.
Millsaps struck first scoring three runs in the second. Jerrod Myers cleared the bases with a double in the right center gap then came around to score on a Keith Shumaker single.
The Majors took advantage of Pioneer miscues in the fourth. Myers completed one of the rarer plays in baseball, scoring from second on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Keith Shumaker. Millsaps tallied another run on a came into score on a wild pitch making it a 5-0 game.
The Pioneers lone offense of the game came on a RBI groundout by freshman George Jester III in the fifth.
The Majors added two more runs in the eighth frame.
UW-Platteville's Bill Oppriecht suffered his third loss on the year. He threw 6.2 innings and allowed five runs, six hits and four walks.
Jester recorded two of the Pioneers four hits.
The Majors earned the two-game sweep after defeating the Pioneers on Tuesday 13-1.
The Pioneers will wrap up their spring break trip on Thursday when they face off at Hendrix College at 6 p.m.
