Baseball shutout by 21st-ranked Augustana

MOLINE, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team was shutout in two seven-inning games against 21st-ranked Augustana (Ill.), 5-0, 1-0, on Saturday at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field.
Game One - Augustana 5, UW-Platteville 0
Augustana scored two runs in the first and the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Vikings used a pair of consecutive one-out hits to take a 4-0 lead.
The Vikings tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.
Bill Oppriecht suffered his second loss of the season and threw six innings and allowed five runs on nine hits.
Freshman George Jester III and junior Zach Demmon recorded two hits apiece leading the Pioneers.
Game Two - Augustana 1, UW-Platteville 0
Senior Adam Theis held the Vikings to three hits and one run, but without any run support took the loss in a pitchers' duel. Augastana's Seth Davis pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts.
For five innings, Theis and Davis put goose eggs on the board, but Augustana finally got on the board in the sixth. Jacob Van Duyne drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a ground out. Kurt Schmidt followed with a single to left, scoring Van Duyne with the game's only run.
Junior Ryan Duva and senior Jon Lewerke record the Pioneers only hits of the game.
The Pioneers head to Memphis, Tenn. on Monday to play against Rhodes College at 3 p.m.
