For the second-straight day, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team lost to Washington U. The host Bears defeated the Pioneers by a 7-2 margin on Saturday in St. Louis.
UW-Platteville (3-10) had four players with multiple hits including Zach Demmon, Tyler Jacobson, Levi Ney and Topher Scheeler. In the loss, the Pioneers stranded 13 runners on base in the defeat.
Washington U. (17-6) was led by the 4-for-5 effort by Brandon Rogalski. After surrendering a first inning homerun starting pitcher, Max Gordon pitched seven solid innings, scattering nine hits and striking out five to raise his record to 3-1.
On the first pitch of the game, UW-Platteville second baseman Trevor Kattre hit a home run over the left-field wall to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the half inning, the Bears sent nine batters to the plate, scoring three runs on four hits for a 3-1 lead. Washington U. added to its lead with a run in the third and fifth inning for a 5-1 advantage. In the top half of the fifth, the Pioneers stranded the bases loaded.
In the sixth, Washington U. added to its lead with two more runs to make the contest, 7-1. The Pioneers got one of the runs back in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Demmon to cut the deficit to 7-2.
Earlier in the day, the Pioneers dropped a 4-2 decision to Wheaton. No game statistics are available at this time.
