Baseball to Play Six Games this Week
The Pioneers baseball team will wrap up the four-game regular season series against UW-Whitewater (1 p.m. and 4 p.m.) at home Wednesday to kick off a week that features six total conference games. After that, UW-Platteville travels to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of doubleheaders starting at noon and 3 p.m.
The Warhawks, who won the first two games of the series last week, sit atop the conference at 23-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play. UW-Whitewater moved up to sixth in the d3baseball Top 25 this week and pace the WIAC in both team batting average (.370) and team ERA (3.44). Eli Frank leads the conference with a .454 batting average and is one of five players hitting over .400 in the Warhawks starting lineup.
The Pointers enter the week having lost two straight but are still third in the conference at 15-7 overall and 7-3 in league play. Jackson Adams (.378 batting average) and Anthony Tomczak (.368) lead the offense, while Kenny Schultz boasts a 3-1 record and 3.42 ERA across his first five starts.
Softball Plays Two WIAC Road Doubleheaders
The Pioneers softball team won all four games last week, including the first two conference games against UW-River Falls over the weekend. This week, UW-Platteville is slated to head to UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday and UW-Stout on Saturday to continue conference play in a pair of doubleheaders.
The Pointers, who were ranked 20th on the most recent NFCA Top 25, enter the week 21-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in WIAC play. Offensively, Kaitlyn Roberts is second in the conference with a .458 batting average, and her .699 slugging percentage ranks fourth in the WIAC. Morgan Harwood has been nearly unhittable in the circle with a 0.40 ERA across 52.2 innings pitched.
The Blue Devils come in at 15-11 overall and 1-1 in conference and will play UW-River Falls on Wednesday before hosting the Pioneers on Saturday. UW-Stout is last in the conference with a .292 team batting average, but fourth in total runs scored at 127.
Track Heads to Augustana this Weekend
With just a couple weeks until the WIAC Outdoor Championships, the Pioneers track and field teams head to the Augustana (Ill.) Meet of Champions this Friday and Saturday in Rock Island, Illinois. Events from the Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex will start at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Women's Golf Competes at Warhawk Open
After opening the spring schedule with a fourth-place finish at the Duhawk Invite this past weekend, the Pioneers women's golf team heads to the two-day Warhawk Invite on Friday and Saturday. The invite will be held at the Riverside Country Club in Janesville, Wisconsin.
