Pioneers’ prepare for busy week, football opens WIAC play

The Pioneers (1-2) are coming off a bye after picking up a non-conference victory on Sept. 18 at Franklin College. The Titans last played on Sept. 11 when they defeated NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University.
Sophomore Kobe Berghammer will be under center for the Titans. He has completed 56.9% of his passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Mitch Gerhartz has rushed 17 times in two games for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Peter MacCudden leads the Titans with 112 yards on 20 rushes.
Berghammer's favorite target is sophomore Tony Steger. Steger has seven receptions for 126 yards. Senior tight end Justin Kasuboski has two touchdown receptions
Pat Cerroni is in his 14th season at UW-Oshkosh with a career record of 105-42.
Senior Colin Schuetz leads the Pioneer offense. He has completed 57.1% of his passes for 846 yards and six touchdowns. Schuetz has two rushing touchdowns on the year. Junior running back Tyler Lamer leads the Pioneers with 22 rushing attempts for 121 yards and one touchdown.
Junior wideout Ben Wilson leads the Pioneers in receptions with 20. Junior wideout Brandt Stare has 15 receptions and leads the team with 272 reception yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Junior linebacker Sam Smith leads the Pioneer defense with 33.0 tackles. Junior defensive line man Justin Blazek has 30.0 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 6.5 tackle for losses. Blazek also has one interception and a pass break up that led to junior defensive lineman Tyler Bacon's interception returned for a touchdown at Franklin.
Mike Emendorfer is in his 23rd year at UW-Platteville with an overall record of 109-106.
Ash is medalist at UW-Whitewater
Senior Markie Ash continues to set the pace on the course for the Pioneers. Ash broke her own school record for a 36-hole score by three strokes. Ash won the UW-Whitewater Fall Invite with a two-day total of 147 (74-73). Her second day round of 73 bested her all-time personal best 74, which she tied on day one.
The Pioneers finished fourth out of 13 teams at the Riverside Golf Course in Janesville, Wisconsin. The Pioneers got strong play from all five golfers on day one. Sophomore Josie Alm (83-92), senior Cortney Olsen (85-86), senior Emily Veenhuis (88-94) and Madeline Ritter (89-92) all broke 90. It is the second time in school history and second time this season all five golfers broke 90 in the same round.
The Pioneers will have one more tune up before the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) when they travel to Prescott, Wisconsin, for the Falcon Invite on Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2.
Ash leads the WIAC in scoring average with 76.5 and was recently named WIAC Kwik Trip Golfer of the Week.

Cross country gets early look at WIAC and North Regional Championship course
UW-Platteville's men's and women's cross country programs will get the opportunity to run the 8,000-meter and 6,000-meter course that will host the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) and the NCAA Division III North Regional. The Pioneers will travel to Colfax, Wisconsin, for the Blugold Invite on Friday, Oct. 1. The men's race will start at 4:15 p.m. with the women to follow at 5:15 p.m. UW-Eau Claire will be the host school for the NCAA North Regional on Saturday, Nov. 13, while UW-Stout will host the conference championship on Saturday, Oct. 30. Both schools share Whitetail Golf Club as their home course.
Women's soccer returns after two postponed contests, opens WIAC play
The lone unbeaten women's soccer team in the WIAC had an unexpected week off. With forecast looking very dicey in Winona, Minnesota, on Sept. 20, the Saint Mary's University contest was postponed. The second contest of the week, at Loras, was also postponed.
The Pioneers (5-0-2) will return to action when the University of Dubuque visits Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium for High School Day and the Suicide Prevention cause game on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
The Spartans come into the contest with a 4-4 record. Three Spartans have scored two goals each. Brooke Brodzinski leads the team with seven total points.
Following the Spartans contest, the Pioneers will begin WIAC play when they travel to Menominee, Wisconsin, to face UW-Stout on Friday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.
The Blue Devils enter the week with a 7-2-1 record. UW-Stout will host Hamline University before the Pioneers visit. Liv Winkler and Lexi Boyd lead the Blue Devils with four goals each.
Ryan Raufus is in his 10th year at UW-Stout and has a career record of 67-87-20.
Senior Amber Lueder is fourth in the WIAC and leads the Pioneers with six goals. Six freshmen have tailed at least one goal for the Pioneers. Junior Emma Ball and Onalee Erickson have split time in goal for the Pioneers. Ball is third in the WIAC in goals allowed (.720) and Erickson is second in the WIAC in saves (19). Erickson and Ball have combined for four shutouts.
Sam Koenig is in his first year as director of soccer and has a career record of 5-0-2.
Men's soccer picks up win, prepares for trip to Michigan
UW-Platteville's men's soccer program ran its streak to six games when they took down the University of Dubuque 2-1 on Sept. 22. The Pioneers used a Spartan miscue to take a 1-0 lead before freshman Lucas Godon put the Pioneers up 2-0 off a pass from sophomore Jack Gentilli.
The Pioneers played a man down for the final 20 minutes to gut out the win.

The Pioneers will welcome Wartburg College to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. The Knights enter the contest with a 2-4-1 record. Jack Palen leads the Knights with five goals.
Following the home match with the Spartans, the Pioneers will head east to the state of Michigan for a pair of games. The Pioneers will visit Albion College on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. The Britons enter the week with a 2-4-1 record. Three Britons are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. Brett Swaton leads the team with six total points.
The Pioneers will have a day off in Michigan before they battle Hope College on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. The Flying Dutchmen enter the week with a 5-2-1 record. Nic Kubert leads the Flying Dutchmen with three goals.

Volleyball to host High School Night
Pioneer volleyball will welcome local high school teams to Williams Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. when they host Edgewood College. The Pioneers are coming off a 1-2 week, where they dropped a conference match to UW-Stout 3-1. The Pioneers split two matches on Sept. 25. They were swept by St. Norbert before sweeping Luther to finish Alumni Day.

The Eagles will enter the contest with a 10-4 record. Mackenzie Doherty leads the Eagles with 191 kills. Abbey Falk leads the Eagles defensively at the net with 51 blocks. Lea Bunch leads the Eagles with 304 digs.
The Pioneers will return to WIAC action on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. when they travel to UW-La Crosse. The Eagles enter the week with a 14-3 record overall and 2-0 in conference. Emma Lawrence leads the WIAC in kills with 259. Isabelle Jensen is the conference leader in aces per set (.60).
Amber Dun is in her fourth season at UW-La Crosse and sixth as a head coach with an overall record of 64-38.
Freshman Emma Carlson leads the Pioneers and is sixth in the WIAC, averaging 2.86 kills a set. Carlson's 183 kills are good for fifth in the WIAC. Senior Olivia Kudronowicz is second on the team with 154 kills.
Senior Kaite Asche is second in the WIAC in total blocks (60) and sixth in blocks per set (0.92). She also leads the Pioneers in service aces with 27.
Sophomore Abby Feldmann and junior Sam Rossetti have split time setting for the Pioneers. Feldmann leads the Pioneers with 315, while Rossetti has tallied 255 assists.
Samantha Birkicht is in her fifth year as head volleyball coach at UW-Platteville. She has a career record of 49-59.
