Pioneers name athletes of the week, Shields earns WIAC honors

Men's Basketball - Quentin Shields, Freshman (Chicago, Ill./Brooks College Prep Academy), Guard - Shields averaged 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists to guide the Pioneers to a 2-0 week. On Jan. 31 at No. 18 UW-Oshkosh, Shields had 16 points in the second half to lead to UW-Platteville to a 68-62 win. He finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds, shot 55.6 percent from the field, and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line. In a 74-67 win at UW-La Crosse on Feb. 3, Shields had 11 points and 5 rebounds to help the Pioneers move to 8-2 in conference play. |

Women's Field - Brittany Ehlen, Junior (Burlington, Wis.) - Ehlen won the pole vault competition at the Wartburg Indoor Select on Feb. 3 with a height of 3.67 meters (12' 0.5"). The vault is a lifetime best, and improves the school record she already held. Ehlen is currently ranked at the top of the WIAC in pole vault and 10th in the nation. |

Men's Field - Noah Steiner, Sophomore (Monticello, Iowa) - Steiner won the high jump at the Wartburg Indoor Select on Feb. 3 to help the Pioneer men finish third at the seven team meet. He cleared a personal record height of 2.01 m (6'7"), which is the second highest in the WIAC and ranks him 24th in the nation. |

Wrestling - Lucius Rinehart, Freshman (Evansville, Wis.), 285 pounds - With the Pioneers trailing UW-Oshkosh heading into the final match of the night, Rinehart rose to the occasion and earned a pin over Ben Kitslaar to give UW-Platteville the 27-22 dual meet victory on Feb. 1. |

Women's Basketball - Allison Prestegaard, Junior (Amboy, Ill./Ashton Franklin Center), Center - Prestegaard nearly recorded her second triple-double of the season in the Pioneers 65-55 loss to 18th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. The center had 14 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks in the loss. In Saturday's 66-60 loss to UW-La Crosse, the junior had 10 points on two-for-five shooting from the floor and six-for-nine shooting from the free throw line, grabbed seven rebounds and had one blocked shot. Prestegaard has 62 blocks on the season, which is 32 more than any other WIAC student-athlete. |
