Pioneers Split Two Matches At Calvin Invitational
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (12-3) split a pair of matches on day two of the Calvin Invitational. The Pioneers swept Albion (8-6) in the morning before falling 3-0 to Calvin (11-2) in the afternoon from Van Noord Arena.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (12-3) split a pair of matches on day two of the Calvin Invitational. The Pioneers swept Albion (8-6) in the morning before falling 3-0 to Calvin (11-2) in the afternoon from Van Noord Arena.
Against Albion, a five-point Pioneers run helped UW-Platteville claim the opening set by a score of 25-19. In set two, the Pioneers pulled away and led by double digits for a 25-15 win. UW-Platteville wrapped up the sweep with another 25-15 set win, highlighted by a six-point run.
Junior Emma Carlson posted a match-high 17 kills on 32 total attacks for a .438 hitting percentage. Senior Camryn Johnston was second on the team with eight kills. Senior Shea Lauria recorded a team-high 12 digs while sophomore Bri Gartner tallied 11. Sophomore Gracie Gibbens led the team with 21 assists while senior Sam Rossetti added 16.
In the first set against Calvin, the two teams went back-and-forth but the Knights pulled away late to win 25-20. Calvin took the second set by a score of 25-13 behind a pair of five-point runs. The Knights led throughout the third set and won the match 25-20.
Carlson led the Pioneers with 16 kills against Calvin, while senior Claudia Johnson was second on the team with eight. Carlson reached double digit digs with 10, while Gibbens (19) and Rossetti (11) paced the team in assists.
The Pioneers will play their second conference match on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on the road against UW-Eau Claire.
