Volleyball Sweeps Dubuque and Simpson

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team swept the University of Dubuque, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16), and Simpson College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-8) on Friday at Williams Fieldhouse. 

The Pioneers never gave the Spartans a chance and jumped out to a 7-2 lead. UD managed to tie the first-set up at 16-16 but the Pioneers used a 5-1 run to win the set, 25-20. UW-Platteville kept the momentum going in the second-set, taking a 12-4 lead and held off a Spartan comeback to win 25-17.  In the third set, the Pioneers cruised to a 25-16 victory, sweeping UD. 

Freshman Lidia Frias led the Pioneers with a game-high 12 kills, while senior Stephanie Kirchner and freshman Lindsey Decker recorded nine kills apiece. Defensively, Haley Jansen tallied 10 digs followed by Andrea Larsen with nine. 

The Pioneers had to come back from a 3-0 hole in the first-set and won 25-17. The Storm didn't put up much of a fight in the final two sets as the Pioneers won the second-set, 25-10, and sealed the sweep with a 25-8 victory in the third. 

UW-Platteville ran on all cylinders against SC, as they totaled 12 block assists and 39 kills with only eight errors. The Pioneers forced the Storm to 23 errors and only allowed 16 kills. 

Kirchner hit an astounding .650 percentage with a game-high 13 kills and no errors. Frias recorded seven kills without an error as well. Decker added eight kills and eight digs. Jansen recorded 19 of the Pioneers' 43 digs.  

The Pioneers improve to 13-15 on the year. 

UW-Platteville returns to conference action on Friday, Oct. 25 when the Pioneers welcome UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
