Pioneers Fall To Eagles In WIAC Championship
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Playing in their first WIAC Championship, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (10-3-5) fell to top-seeded UW-La Crosse (17-1-1) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0 from Veterans Memorial Field in La Crosse.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Playing in their first WIAC Championship, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (10-3-5) fell to top-seeded UW-La Crosse (17-1-1) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0 from Veterans Memorial Field in La Crosse.
The Eagles tournament title is its fifth in program history and second consecutive. UW-La Crosse earns the WIAC's automatic NCAA bid, with the 64-team field for the Division III Championships to be set on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
The match was scoreless at the half, with UW-La Crosse carrying an 11-0 advantage in shots. Freshman goalkeeper Madison Way was busy for the Pioneers, as she fended off six attempts on goal to keep the game even at zero.
The Eagles broke through in the second half, scoring three times to win. The first goal came in the 63rd minute, and UW-La Crosse added another in the 66th minute on a penalty kick. The final score came in the 79th minute to put the hosts ahead by three.
UW-La Crosse finished with 34 shots, compared to two for the Pioneers. Way made a career-high 12 saves, while the Pioneers as a team recorded two more saves. Juniors Arianna Lombardi and Anna Spindle tallied the two shots for UW-Platteville in the game.
