Pioneers Suffer First Loss of Season to Luther
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (4-1-2) suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night to Luther College (2-3-3). The Norse pulled ahead in the 57th minute for the 1-0 victory at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (4-1-2) suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night to Luther College (2-3-3). The Norse pulled ahead in the 57th minute for the 1-0 victory at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers commanded the first half, shooting all six total shots taken. UW-Platteville put two on goal but were unable to pull ahead and the two teams went into halftime locked 0-0.
In the 57th minute, Luther broke through with a lose ball in the box following a free kick. Emma Lin scored the goal and was assisted by Lauren Linketter and Maggie Haller.
The Norse almost doubled the lead in the 68th minute, but freshman Madison Way came up big with a huge save when Lauren Linkletter drilled one to the bottom right.
UW-Platteville's best chance of tying the game fell in the 89th minute when Junior Bryanne Pinkowski's shot to bottom right was deflected just before the ball crossed the plane.
Overall, the Pioneers outshot the Norse 13-9. Notably, seven of Luther's nine shots in the second half fell on goal.
Junior Arianna Lombardi had a game-high five shots while Maggie Haller led the Norse with four shots, including three on goal.
Madison Way recorded six saves while Ken Vavrichek kept a clean slate with five saves.
Up next, the Pioneers welcome the University of Dubuque on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
