University of Wisconsin-Platteville Extends Partnership with Nike and BSN SPORTS

PLATTEVILLE, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville announced that it has entered into a multi-year partnership with NIKE through BSN SPORTS to continue to make NIKE the official apparel of Pioneer Athletics. BSN will also serve as the official equipment provider.

Pioneers announce Petey Award winners

Platteville, Wis.- The annual Petey Awards banquet is an exciting time for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Athletic Department.  It is an end of the year celebration to honor the Pioneer student-athletes’ hard work and commitment.  Due to COVID-19, the Petey Awards banquet was canceled and replaced by an online show to recognize the department’s major award winners.

Pioneer coaches adapt to new way of recruiting

Platteville, Wis.-Recruiting is a vital part of any college coaches’ duties.  Recruiting prospective student-athletes is the lifeline of athletic programs.  Like the students and student-athletes at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville who went from face-to-face learning to alternative learning; the head and assistant coaches had to adapt from face-to face-recruiting and to virtual recruiting.

Platteville, Wis.-National Student Athlete Day (NSAD) was established in 1987 by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports to honor those student-athletes who achieved excellence in academics and athletics.  NSAD has been celebrated on April, 6 annually since its inception.

WIAC Statement On COVID-19

MADISON, Wis.--Following a very deliberative process to allow for the full consideration of the most up-to-date information pertaining to the spread of COVID-19, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced a set of measures that will be implemented conference-wide effective immediately. 1. The spring sports season (i.e., baseball, softball, women’s lacrosse, outdoor track & field, golf and tennis) has been cancelled to include any and all competition. 2. Any and all athletically-related activities (e.g., practice) are suspended indefinitely.

MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced the full count of 2019-20 NCAA Division III Scholar All-American individual honorees and five members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling program were among the 260 individuals representing 75 institutions.

COVID-19 Precautions for Athletics, UW-Platteville suspends face-to-face classes through end of semester

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – UW-Platteville Athletics remains in regular communication with University and UW-System leadership to monitor developments related to COVID-19. In response to decisions being made, UW-Platteville Athletics will implement the following measures for athletic events. Cancellation of Softball, Baseball, and Track and Field competitions through the 2020 Spring Sports Season.

Rinehart and Wynsma finish fourth at NCAA Upper Midwest Regional in season finale

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 22 ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team’s 2019-20 season came to a close on Saturday at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional hosted by No. 3 Augsburg University in Si Melby Hall. Junior Lucius Rinehart and freshman Nathan Wynsma finished the competition in a team high fourth place and were narrowly kept from the National Meet with the top three of each weight class moving on to the NCAA Championship.

Wrestling prepare for regionals, Track prepare for WIAC indoor meet

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer wrestling team will participate in the Upper Midwest regionals on Feb. 28 and 29 in Minneapolis. The Pioneers are coming off a fourth-place finish in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Junior Lucius Rinehart won an individual title, going 4-0 in the 285-pound weight class. Freshman Nathan Wynsma finished second in the 165-pound weight class.

Pioneers look to finish strong in regular season

Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s and women’s basketball team have two high-stake games left in the regular season. The men will finish off the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a pair of road games as they attempt to clinch a league championship. The Pioneers will travel to UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 19 for a 7 p.m. contest, before closing out the regular season Feb. 22 at UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.

Rinehart's HWT title highlights WIAC Championship

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The No. 22 University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team finished fourth at the WIAC Championship presented by Culver’s on Friday in UW-La Crosse’s Mitchell Hall. Two Pioneers advanced to final bouts with junior Lucius Rinehart taking the HWT title while freshman Nathan Wynsma took second at 164 pounds.

Pioneer wrestling ready for postseason

Platteville, Wis.-The No. 23 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team finished up the regular season with a thrilling victory in the annual “Throwdown in the Theatre” match against UW Oshkosh on Feb. 7. The Pioneers won six straight matches to put the Titans away 28-9.

No. 23 Pioneers thrill in Throwdown in the Theatre

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The No. 23 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team (4-2, 3-2 WIAC) defeated UW Oshkosh (4-10, 1-4 WIAC) 28-9 in a thrilling production of Throwdown in the Theatre in the Center for the Arts. The Pioneers won seven of the matches which included two pins, a major decision, and six straight victories to close out the dual.
