Pioneers finish fifth at WIAC Championship, Ash sets program records in process

REEDSBURG, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team finished fifth of eight teams at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) after three rounds at the Reedsburg Country Club. Sophomore Markie Ash golfed a program best finish in the WIAC Championship with 233 strokes (54 holes) surpassing Stephanie Baribeau's mark of 248 strokes in 2015. 

After round-one on Friday, the Pioneers sat in fourth place of eight teams with 333 strokes. The Pioneers tallied a second round of 340 after round two was delayed until Sunday due to rain, and finished round three with 33 stokes for a three-round total of 1,006 strokes. UW-Whitewater claimed the 2019 title with a three-round total of 933 strokes followed by UW-Stout (941), UW-Oshkosh (987), and UW-Eau Claire (990).  Trailing the Pioneers were UW-La Crosse (1,043), UW-River Falls (1,060), and UW-Stevens Point (1,095).

Ash finished tied for fourth place with rounds of 79, 74, and 80 for a three-round total of 233 strokes to set a new program record for lowest 54-hole finish. The second-round finish of 74 strokes sits sixth in program history of lowest rounds. Ash's stroke average of 80.85 is a program best surpassing Baribeau' 82.9 mark (206-17). 

Junior Kaley Mumma finished second for the pioneers and 18^th overall with rounds of 85, 84, and 80 for a three-round total of 249.  Senior Alysse Elko combined 83, 91, and 86 for a total of 260 strokes for 27^th place overall. Elko's weekend also included a hole in one on #12 (134 yards, pitching wedge).  

Junior Cortney Olson (86, 93, 87) finished with 266 strokes while sophomore Riley Redell (95, 91, 94) finished out the Pioneers competing five golfers with a three-round score of 280 strokes.
