Pioneers compete at UW-Whitewater Fall Invite

JANESVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team competed in the UW-Whitewater Fall Invite Friday and Saturday at the Riverside Golf Course.
After one round on Friday, the Pioneers sat in sixth place of 18 teams with 339 strokes. The Pioneers tallied a second round of 348 for a two-day total of 687 strokes.
The Pioneers led after one day of competition with a first round score of 336 and improved to a day two total of 324 to finish with a combined score of 660 and finish in a tie for seventh place with Lake Forest College. Finishing first in the tournament was St. Mary's College out of Indiana.
Sophomore Markie Ash paced the Pioneers and placed 13th out of 96 golfers tallying 79 strokes in round one and 80 in round two for a two-day-total of 159. Senior Alysse Elko combined 87 strokes in round one and improved to 84 in round two for two day total of 171.
Junior Cortney Olson (84, 91) finished with 171 strokes, sophomore Riley Redell (97,93) improved to 190 strokes, and wrapping up the Pioneers five golfers was sophomore Emily Veenhuis (89,102) with 191 strokes.
The Pioneers return to action next weekend when they travel to UW-Stevens Point and the Stevens Point Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.
