Pioneers drop tournament game

Buena Vista broke open a tied game early in the second half and went on to beat UW-Platteville 85-66 Friday in the State Farm Tournament in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The host Beavers led 43-41 at the half, and the game was tied 43-43 on Ashley Callahan's inside jumper. BVU then outscored the Pioneers 18-6 over the next nine minutes, and UWP never came closer than nine the rest of the night.

Lisa Grantman scored 12, and Charity Stotmeister had 11 for the Pioneers, who made just six of 31 shots (19.4 percent) in the second half. Stacia Nemitz, Angie Vamstad and Dru Schneider each had eight for the 2-3 Pioneers.

Margo Muhlbauer scored 20, and Jenn Schumann 18 for Buena Vista, who improved to 3-2.

The Pioneers conclude the tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. against undefeated Simpson (4-0), who beat Presentation, S.D., 104-73 in Friday's opener.
