Pioneers down Eagles 5-1
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team defeated Edgewood College 5-1 Monday in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium as five different Pioneers accumulated the five goals of the night.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team defeated Edgewood College 5-1 Monday in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium as five different Pioneers accumulated the five goals of the night.
The Pioneers got off to an early lead as freshman Lorenzo Mancera scored his first goal of the season with an assist from sophomore Boston Riley in the 8th minute. Sophomore Matt Walter extended the lead to 2-0 in the 37th minute with an unassisted goal. The Pioneers were not done with the first half as junior Gabe Tovar scored off a cross from sophomore Mitch Reid with just seconds remaining in the first half and the Pioneers took the 3-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, junior Addison Freybler scored the Pioneers' fourth goal of the evening with an assist from sophomore Noah Mesdjian in the 57th minute. Having been shutout for the first 77 minutes of play, the Eagles managed to make it on the scoreboard with a successful penalty kick by Sean Surtees. The Pioneers would find the net once more with an unassisted goal by freshman Diego Mancera in the 82nd minute giving the Pioneers the 5-1 lead that would hold for the remainder of the game.
Overall, the Pioneers outshot Edgewood 25-6 with 15 shots on goal for UW-Platteville and four on goal for the Eagles. The Pioneers owned all six of the game's corner kicks.
Senior Nate Miller and sophomore Will Sullivan split the game in goal with Miller covering the first half while Sullivan recorded three saves in the second half. Edgewood's Bradyn Storhoff recorded 10 saves on the night.
The Pioneers improve to 7-7-2 overall while the Eagles fall to 6-10-1 overall. UW-Platteville will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to Augustana College to play the Vikings on Thorson-Lucken Field at 7 p.m.
