Pioneers out-shoot Devils

January 5, 2008

After returning from its San Diego trip Thursday, then making the long bus trip to Menomonie Friday, it seemed only fitting UW-Platteville used the long-ball to beat UW-Stout 83-64 Saturday night.

UW-Platteville made 10 three-point baskets in the first half to grab a 20-point lead on its way to the 83-64 victory. The Pioneers led 51-31 at the half and never let the Blue Devils come closer than 15 in the second half.

Winners for the fifth time in six games, the Pioneers improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Blue Devils fell to 3-9, 0-4.

The Pioneers made seven three-point baskets, including three by Curt Hanson, in the first 10 minutes to bolt out to a 25-10 lead. Hanson finished with four long-range baskets, while Mike Shaw, Charlie Lohoff, Josh Langenfeld and Nick Allen had two apiece. UWP tied its school record with 12 three-pointers for the third time this season.

Langenfeld led the Pioneers with 22 points, while Hanson scored 18, and Lohoff 16. Center Jeff Skemp totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Miles Webb (20) and Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (17) combined for 37 of Stout's 64 points.

UW-Platteville trails UW-Oshkosh (4-0, 10-2) by one game in the WIAC and plays in Oshkosh Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Titans beat third-ranked UW-Stevens Point 73-62 Saturday. UWP continues its road show Saturday at UW-Stevens Point at 5 p.m. before finally returning to Bo Ryan Court Jan. 16 against UW-La Crosse.

(Saturday's game at UW-Stout will be shown on Fox Sports Net Wisconsin Wednesday at 10 p.m.)
