Pioneers turn back River Falls, 58-50

UW-Platteville took advantages of its second chances Saturday in beating UW-River Falls 58-50 in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers scored 28 points after getting an offensive rebound, including 20 of the 27 first-half point. The Pioneers led 27-23 at the half and never trailed in the second half.

UWP out-rebounded the Falcons 43-27, including 22-9 on the offensive glass. Both Levon Crawford (11) and Mark Gossens (10) reached double figures in rebounding.

Brad Reitzner and Brandon Temperly each scored 14 points and combined for the first seven of the second half. Temperly scored the opening basket, then Reitzner had two free throws and a three-point basket for a 34-23 advantage.

The Pioneers improved to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

UW-River Falls (5-10, 1-6) was led by Dan Torrez's 15 points. Scott Kelly added 11, and Eric Kossoris scored 10.

The Pioneers are back in Williams Fieldhouse Wednesday to face UW-Stout at 8 p.m. The Blue Devils are tied with UW-Stevens Point atop the league at 6-1.
