Pioneers name athletes of the week

Men's Cross Country - Zach Lee, Junior (Franklin, Wis.) - Lee ran a very steady, smart race at the Principia Cowbell Classic on Oct. 14 which served as the Pre-Nationals meet this season. He finished 16th out of over 350 runners who completed the 8k course with a time of 25:33. The race was run in less than ideal conditions with temperatures in the low 80s.

Women's Cross Country - Katie Wardinski, Junior (West Allis, Wis./Central) - Wardinski ran a personal best by 10 seconds to finish 21st out of 332 runners at the Principia Cowbell Classic with a time of 22:24. She led the Pioneers to a 15th place finish beating out a number of nationally ranked teams. The race was run in very challenging conditions with temperatures in the high 80's.

Football - Defense – Luke Johnson, Sophomore (Milan, Ill./Rockridge), Cornerback – Johnson accounted for three total tackles with all three of them being solo, and one interception returned 47 yards for a touchdown. Johnson put the Pioneers on the board with 9:55 left in the second quarter. The Pioneers were down 7-0 and struggling on the offense side of the ball when Luke Johnson jumped a route and intercepted the Titans and took it in for a pick 6 to tie the game at 7-7.

Football - Special Teams – Mark Johnson, Junior (Johnston, Iowa), Wide Receiver – Johnson had two kickoff returns that accounted for 78 yards and returned one punt for 20 yards. Johnson's key moment came in the third quarter after the Titans went up 28-14. On the ensuing kickoff, Johnson returned the kickoff 56 yards to the UW-Oshkosh 34 yard line setting up the Pioneer offense in great field position to respond. Johnson added five catches for 49 yards and a rushing touchdown on the offensive side of the ball. |
