UW-Platteville Athletics - Student-Athlete Awards

The UW-Platteville Athletic Department honored its academic leaders Tuesday, April 6, at the department's eighth annual Student-Athlete Day banquet.

The Pioneers collectively recorded a 3.0 grade-point average during the last school year, and started strong in 2003-04. The department saluted the student-athlete(s) in each sport with the highest grade-point averages and outstanding achievements at a luncheon. The recipients invited a faculty or staff member whom they deemed to be influential on their academic and athletic successes.

The following are this year's honorees, listed by sport, hometown, major, fall grade-point average and invited guest.

Football: Tom Stetzer, Black River Falls, Civil Engineering, 4.0, Thomas Nelson;

Men's Cross Country/Track and Field: David Chancellor , Mount Horeb, English Education, 4.0; (could not attend because of class); Andy Kahler, Reedsburg, Mechanical Engineering, 4.0, Lynn Schlager; Jesse Spankowski, Reedsburg, Mechanical Engineering. 4.0, Tamer Ceylan;

Women's Soccer: Mary Dorow, Reedsburg, Biology Education, 4.0, Elizabeth Frieders

Baseball: Dan Birr, Reedsburg, Mechanical Engineering, 3.7, (was on the road with the baseball team).

Men's Basketball: Sean Krause, Fort Atkinson, Engineering, 3.8, Paul Combs;

Men's Soccer: Curt Frey, Fort Atkinson, Computer Science/ Business Administration, 4.0, James Gast;

Wrestling: Matt Eastlick, Belmont, Physical Education, 4.0, Wally Iselin;

Softball: Heather Wotruba, Maribel, Criminal Justice, 4.0, Joe Lomax; Kiersten Henn, Sauk City, Undeclared, 4.0, Anuschka Neuwald;
