Because of the cancellation of the 2020 cross country season, the Pioneers were eager to get the 2021 season started. It was even more rewarding to compete on home turf for the opening meet. The Gender Equity Invite is a unique event of its own. Exactly two mintues and 40 seconds after the men's 8,000m race began, the women's 6,000m race began. At the finish line, both races were finishing simutaneously, igniting the competition between genders.
Coming in first for the women's race, Pioneer Kaitlyn Galgon ran 26:39.9. In the men's race, the first Pioneer to finish was Caleb Christiansen who took seventh with a time of 26:39.9.
Next up for the Pioneers will be the Tom Hoffman Invite at UW-Whitewater on Saturday, September 18. The women's race begins at 10:00am and the men's race begins at 10:45am.
