Waunakee native turns injuries into double major

Platteville, Wis.- Kaitlyn Galgon was in her senior year at Waunakee High School when she realized two things she liked and was good at, “I liked math and science,” she said “and I was good at both.” That is when she realized engineering was a career path and began her research. Through her research, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville fourth-year junior to be learned of UW-Platteville’s strong engineer program and the opportunity to continue running cross country and track, the decision to attend UW-Platteville was an easy one.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Extends Partnership with Nike and BSN SPORTS

PLATTEVILLE, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville announced that it has entered into a multi-year partnership with NIKE through BSN SPORTS to continue to make NIKE the official apparel of Pioneer Athletics. BSN will also serve as the official equipment provider.

Pioneers announce Petey Award winners

Platteville, Wis.- The annual Petey Awards banquet is an exciting time for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Athletic Department.  It is an end of the year celebration to honor the Pioneer student-athletes’ hard work and commitment.  Due to COVID-19, the Petey Awards banquet was canceled and replaced by an online show to recognize the department’s major award winners.

Platteville, Wis.-Recruiting is a vital part of any college coaches’ duties.  Recruiting prospective student-athletes is the lifeline of athletic programs.  Like the students and student-athletes at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville who went from face-to-face learning to alternative learning; the head and assistant coaches had to adapt from face-to face-recruiting and to virtual recruiting.

Pioneers honor 16 on National Student Athlete Day

Platteville, Wis.-National Student Athlete Day (NSAD) was established in 1987 by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports to honor those student-athletes who achieved excellence in academics and athletics.  NSAD has been celebrated on April, 6 annually since its inception.

WIAC Statement On COVID-19

MADISON, Wis.--Following a very deliberative process to allow for the full consideration of the most up-to-date information pertaining to the spread of COVID-19, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced a set of measures that will be implemented conference-wide effective immediately. 1. The spring sports season (i.e., baseball, softball, women’s lacrosse, outdoor track & field, golf and tennis) has been cancelled to include any and all competition. 2. Any and all athletically-related activities (e.g., practice) are suspended indefinitely.

COVID-19 Precautions for Athletics, UW-Platteville suspends face-to-face classes through end of semester

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – UW-Platteville Athletics remains in regular communication with University and UW-System leadership to monitor developments related to COVID-19. In response to decisions being made, UW-Platteville Athletics will implement the following measures for athletic events. Cancellation of Softball, Baseball, and Track and Field competitions through the 2020 Spring Sports Season.

Cross country teams earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, Klokow named to All-Academic Team

PLATTEVILLE, WIS. -The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Scholar Teams and Scholar-Athletes for the 2019 cross country season and both the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men and women’s cross country teams earned team honors, while Zach Klokow earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.

Klokow takes 13th at NCAA DIII Cross Country Nationals

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Wisconsin - Platteville qualified one athlete to the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships, senior Zach Klokow. Running in his final cross country race of his collegiate career, Klokow took 13th place of the 280 runners.

Klokow cruises to 5th place at NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships

Winneconne, Wis. - Hosted at Lake Breeze Golf Course by the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships were preceeded by snowfall for the second year now. The Pioneers, no strangers to the snow and mud, executed the tough racing conditions. Capitalizing on his senior year, Zach Klokow finished in 5th place of the 252 total runners. Klokow ran 24:49.1 - a lifetime personal best in the 8,000m race.

Pioneers enjoying the benefits of new Athletic Training Room

Platteville, Wis.- In January of 2019 the University of Wisconsin-Platteville opened its doors to a state-of-the-art addition of Williams Fieldhouse. Inside the new addition are multi-purpose courts, a walking track, and a vary spacious weight and cardiovascular area. Right off the weight room though, is one the most important thing for the approximately 450 student-athletes, the new athletic training room.

Klokow finishes third place at 2019 WIAC Cross Country Championships

CUBA CITY, Wis. – On a course that two days ago would have been better suited to host a cross country skiing meet rather than a cross country meet, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville hosted the 2019 WIAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championship presented by Culver’s at Cole Acres Golf Course in rural Cuba City, Wisconsin.
