LaMere and Walden qualify for NCAA Cross Country Championships
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Ian LaMere and Joel Walden were named individual automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Sunday.
INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Ian LaMere and Joel Walden were named individual automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Sunday.
LaMere and Walden were both one of the first seven athletes from the Midwest Region, who aren't a part of a qualifying team, to be selected to participate in the championship.
LaMere a sophomore from Green Bay, Wis., ran his fastest 8,000-meter race in his career with a time of 24:18, good for seventh at Saturday's NCAA Midwest Regional. Walden, a senior from Byron, Ill., ran a personal best time as well, clocking a time of 24:21, and placed in ninth.
Both LaMere and Walden will be making their second appearance at the NCAA Championships. LaMere qualified his freshman year in 2012 and Walden is making is second straight appearance.
LaMere and Walden will run on Saturday, November 22 at the Golf Center at King's Island in Mason, Ohio 11 a.m. local time.
