LaMere and Walden lead Cross Country at NCAA Regional

WINNECONNE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's finished in sixth out of 38 teams at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, while the women's squad placed 16th out of 41 teams.
The 17th-ranked men's team finished behind four top-10 ranked teams and No. 22 UW-Stout, who placed fifth. Top-ranked North Central and No. 2 UW-Eau Claire took first and second respectively, while No. 5 UW-La Crosse placed third and 10th-ranked Washington University (Mo.) claimed fourth-place.
Sophomore Ian LaMere led the Pioneers with a personal best and the third best time in school history with a time of 24:18, good for seventh-place. Senior Joel Walden posted the fourth fastest time in program history with time of 24:21, finishing in ninth-place. Senior Sam Poser crossed the finish line at the 24:55 mark and finished in 24th-place. Senior Ethan Shanks finished the 8k course in 25:36, while Matt Smaga rounded out the Pioneers top-five with a time of 25:46.
On the women's side, Kiera Depies tied a personal best with a time of 22:55 to lead the Pioneers. Sophomore Chelsey Heiden finished the 6k course in 23:32, while Allison Wells crossed the finish line at the 23:42 mark. Andrea Knutson posted a time of 23:42, and Ashlynne Wampfler clocked a time of 24:02.
The men's squad will find out on Sunday at 1 p.m. if they received an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21.
