Cross Country competes at Oshkosh Open
The UW-Platteville men's and women's cross country teams used the Oshkosh Open on Friday afternoon as final preparation for next week's conference meet.
OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's and women's cross country teams used the Oshkosh Open on Friday afternoon as final preparation for next week's conference meet.
The men's team finished in second out of four teams with 45 points. Sophomore Benjamin Rhode led the Pioneers with a 12th-place finish, clocking a time of 27:34, while classmate Ian LaMere was right on Rhode's heels with a time of 27:35. Junior Dan LaCroix completed the 8k race in 27:42 and beat out teammate freshman Brandon Puser by a half of a second. Freshman Logan Steinhoff rounded out the Pioneers top-five with a time of 27:48.
Senior Danielle Kunkel won the women's 6K race with a time of 22:57 and beat runner-up Amy Kahl from UW-Whitewater by 30 seconds. Junior Andrea Knutson posted a time of 29:42, as classmate Ashlynne Wampfler was a half a second behind Knutson. Freshman Kimberly Gutierrez clocked a time of 29:54, beating out classmate Anna O'Hern by a tenth of a second.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the WIAC Championships, hosted by UW-La Crosse at the Ettrick Golf Course.
