Kunkel earns second WIAC weekly honor

MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Danielle Kunkel was named women's cross country Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week for the second time this year, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Kunkel ran a personal best time of 21:37.3, breaking her old PR by 10 seconds, finishing third out of 453 finishers at the Tori Neubauer Invitational hosted by UW-La Crosse on Oct. 18. From half a mile out, Kunkel pushed to catch eventual race winner Viola Kebenei (21:31) of Iowa Central Community College - only to be out-sprinted in the last 30 meters for third.
Kunkel claimed her first weekly honor last month after finishing third at the at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) on Sept. 28.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday at the UW-Oshkosh Open.
