Volleyball season ends with road loss to River Falls
RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Volleyball season ended with a loss to University of Wisconsin-River Falls 19-25, 25-23, 21-25 and 22-25 which was a must-win game for the Pioneers to qualify for the WIAC Championship tournament.
RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Volleyball season ended with a loss to University of Wisconsin-River Falls 19-25, 25-23, 21-25 and 22-25 which was a must-win game for the Pioneers to qualify for the WIAC Championship tournament.
The Pioneers finish the season 16-14 (2-5 WIAC) and the Falcons improve to 21-12 (3-4 WIAC) and advance to the WIAC Championship.
It was a slow start for the Pioneers in the first set and they hit -.029 as a team to fall 19-25. In set two the Pioneers had 15 kills and just fours errors for a .344 hitting percentage to take set two 25-23. The Pioneers were forced to play from behind throughout the third and fourth sets but couldn't find a way to take the lead.
Junior Hailey Youngren tallied a double double and led the Pioneers in kills and digs with 11 and 17, respectively. Youngren hit .222 in the match and had one ace and a block assist. Sophomore Olivia Kudronowicz also double doubled with 11 kills and 12 digs.
Sophomore Lita Solbrig had the most efficient night for hitters with a .238 hitting percentage and eight kills. Freshman Sam Rossetti ran the offense and finished with 37 assists.
Senior Katie Jones dominated the net with two solo blocks and seven block assists. Jones also had nine kills. Freshman Stephanie Kalinowski chipped in 16 digs.
