PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The Pioneer volleyball team dropped three out of four to the Edgewood College Eagles (13-8) on Yell Night, which was a part of homecoming week, Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Bo Ryan Court.
This is the women's second consecutive loss as they fall to 10-11 on the year and remain ranked No. 7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Junior Rachel Ambroch led all players with a game-high 15 kills off of 37 attempts for an average of .189. Senior Lauren Grady scored nearly half of her kills with a .435 average coming from 11 total off of 23 attempts.
The Pioneers led early in the first match as they took a 15-11 lead, but Edgewood College would rally for the comeback win. Leading in the end of the match, 24-22, the Pioneers allowed three kills in a row and junior Lidia Frias was blocked at the net for the final Eagle score, 26-24.
Another Eagle rally and a few Pioneer errors late in game two brought Edgewood College back from being down 24-18. A Kelley Lynch kill gave the Pioneers hope, but the Eagles would take game two, 27-25.
The Pioneers forced a game four by taking advantage of their early 6-0 run and ending with a strong finish, 25-20.
The Eagles got back on track in game four as they utilized an early 10-4 lead to catapult into a 25-22 win and a 3-1 victory over the Pioneers.
Wednesday's game was the last home game for UW-Platteville as they hit the road for the next eight games, with their first stop being on Friday at UW-River Falls. The game is set to begin at 7p.m.
