PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team will be returning 12 letter winners and five starters for the 2015 season along with bringing in key performers to replace a couple impact players lost from last season, during which the Pioneers recorded an overall record of 17-17.
Head Coach Deb Schulman, going on her 28th year with the volleyball program, and the Pioneers will be welcoming a new assistant coach to the program. Jon Stenman, former head coach of the volleyball team at Centenary College in Shreveport, La., for three years before moving on to Dickinson State University in Dickinson, N.D., will fill the assistant coaching role for the Pioneers.
After losing two outside hitters in LeeAnn Mizgalski and Jennifer Schmidt, the Pioneers will look to junior transfer Rachel Ambroch and sophomore Allison Jensen to fill the need.
The Pioneers will also return two key middle hitters in senior Lauren Grady and junior Lidia Frias.
“The biggest key to success for this team will be to stay healthy,” said Schulman. “Last year, we were very young and began the season 5-12, but finished the second half of the season 12-5. Hopefully we can continue where we left off last year.”
The Pioneers officially start the 2015 season at home at the UW-Platteville Tournament against Ripon College at 4 p.m. on Sept. 4.
