Kirchner earns WIAC Women’s Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award
UW-Platteville’s Stephanie Kirchner has been named the recipient of the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women’s Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award.
MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Stephanie Kirchner has been named the recipient of the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award.
A senior from Sussex, Wis., boasts a 3.97 grade point average and is majoring in industrial engineering with a minor in business administration. She has been recognized as UW-Platteville's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and named to the Dean's List numerous semesters. Kirchner is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
A two-year team captain, she secured American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honorable mention honors a season ago and is a three-time All-WIAC first team selection. Kirchner is the first person in program history to earn All-WIAC first team accolades three years. She ranks in the top 10 of the school's all-time list in kills, attack percentage, digs and block assists and is the third Pioneer to end her career with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, as well as the Society of Women Engineers. Kirchner serves as secretary for the Institute of Industrial Engineers, Alpha Pi Mu and a senior advisor for Tau Beta Pi. She has been a three-year participant with Habitat for Humanity.
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
