Pioneers Pick Up Fifth Win Friday
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team improved to 5-1 on Friday night with a 2-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan at Buxton Stadium hosted by Simpson College.

The Pioneers got on the board quickly, as freshman Jenna Gravitt scored her first career goal in the fifth minute. Sophomore Lydia Smith was credited with the assist, her fourth on the year. UW-Platteville outshot the Prairie Wolves 9-4 over the remainder of the first half, but neither team found the net. Sophomores Anna Spindle and Vanessa Peterson had shots on target in the closing minutes, but Nebraska Wesleyan goalkeeper Jena Schultz turned aside the attempts.
The Prairie Wolves evened the game in the 63rd minute coming from a play off a corner kick. Nine minutes later, freshman Katherine Ohlwein put the Pioneers back in front with her first goal in the 72nd minute. UW-Platteville held Nebraksa Wesleyan to just one shot in the final 18 minutes to claim a 2-1 victory.
The Pioneers dominated shot attempts throughout the game, finishing in front of the Prairie Wolves 24-7 in shots and 10-3 in shots on goal. Sophomore Alyssa Peterson recorded a game-high five shots, while Gravitt, Spindle, and Ohlwein each tallied four. Senior Emma Ball collected the win in goal, stopping two shots.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, UW-Platteville returns home to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium to face Augustana at 5 p.m.
