PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Two members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team are being recognized in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for their outstanding efforts this season.
Yamilex Jaramillo, a junior forward from Houston, Texas, earned a spot on the All-WIAC team, while midfielder Alex Goff, a junior from Plainfield, Ill., reserved a spot on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Jaramillo logged ten of the Pioneers' 22 goals in 16 games this season, recording her highest number of goals in a season in her three-year career as a Pioneer. Her ten goals put her at second in the WIAC for most goals, points per game with 1.3, goals per game with .62 and fourth in the WIAC for number of points with 21.
"Yami's work ethic is what stands out to me the most," said head women's soccer coach Allison Sanyi-Stringer. "She single-handedly can change a game just by her work rate. She has a positive attitude and just wants to see the team do well."
Goff started in 14 of the 16 games this season as a Pioneer, logging her first two goals of her career and four points total on the season. She is recognized for the sportsmanship she has shown not only throughout this season, but her entire career as a Pioneer.
"Alex has always showed great sportsmanship since her first season here," said Sanyi-Stringer. "She is perfect for this team because she leads by example on and off the field and has always respected the other team and referees. She is a competitive individual that stays calm and positive in most situations."
As a team, the Pioneers went 3-13 this season, battling tough injuries with a young squad, but are looking to start back at square one with the basics.
"This was a tough year for us," said Sanyi-Stringer. "We had a lot of injuries and just never quite had a our full team healthy at the same time. We graduated one senior, so being young coupled with injuries really hurt us. We are looking to build up from here. I think the whole team is committed to getting better and re-dedicating ourselves to the little things that can make a big difference."
