Women's Soccer Setback by Carroll, 2-1
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team was setback by Carroll University, 2-1, on Sunday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team was setback by Carroll University, 2-1, on Sunday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers fall to 4-3 on the year while Carroll improves to 3-3.
Carroll outshot the Pioneers 6-3 in the first-half as the game went scoreless into halftime.
UW-Platteville's Katie Viney broke the scoreless contest when she dribbled around the defense and rocketed a goal from 20 yards giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 49th-minute.
Carroll found an equalizer off a miss played defensive ball by UW-Platteville and CU's Victoria Rivera took advantage of the miscue tying the game up 1-1 in the 64th-minute.
The Pioneers pelted 14 second-half shots at CU's goalkeeper Erica Patterson, but UW-Platteville couldn't get a good open look. Then in the 83rd-minute, Carroll got a counter-attack opportunity and with a nice through ball from Victoria Rivera, Carly Herald delivered the game-winning goal from 15 yards out, 2-1.
UW-Platteville will welcome a much needed mid-week break after two tough weekend contest and will return to action on Sept. 21 for the Pioneers first conference game at UW-Superior.
