Pioneers win 3 titles at 3 levels

The UW-Platteville team had champions in each of the three levels offered at the ultra-competitive Augsburg Open Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Jon Goetz won the 174-pound title in the gold division in a meet that featured 19 teams and the who's who of NCAA Division III wrestling. Goetz won by major decision over Central's Lane Rumelhart, 14-1, a 20-2 technical fall over Minnesota State-Mankato's Trevor Turiff, a 3-2 decision over UW-La Crosse's Sawyer Massie and finally a 7-3 decision against Augsburg's Tanner Vassar.
Also in the gold division, Scott Arneson was fifth at 133 pounds, and Cody Meyer was sixth at 197. Both Beau Harrier (125) and Lucius Rinehart (285) won two matches in their respective weight classes.
Chase Katzenmeyer won the 133-pound title in the silver division, while Tony Bivens won the 157-pound championship in the bronze division. Alec Potter (149) was runner-up in the silver competition, and Tyler Denmark (165) was second in the bronze bouts.
The Pioneers face rival UW-Whitewater on the road Tuesday at 7 p.m.
