Four sophomores wrestle at Nationals
LA CROSSE, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team sent four individuals to the NCAA Division III Nationals in Lacrosse, Wisconsin.
LA CROSSE, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team sent four individuals to the NCAA Division III Nationals in Lacrosse, Wisconsin.
Sophomores Scott Arneson (133), Trevor Harsh (149), Jon Goetz (174), and Grant Wedepohl (184) represented the Pioneers at Nationals.
Arneson faced off against Whitewater's Joe Brodman and was able to pin Brodman at 4:17 and advance to the next round. Arneson proceeded to drop two tough matches to finish out his sophomore season at 28-16.
Goetz won his opening match against Dan Kilroy from The College of New Jersey, winning 2-0 in a hard fought match. Goetz wrestled tough his next match, but fell short. Goetz fell in his wrestle back match and finished his sophomore campaign at 27-9.
Harsh fell in his opening round match, but won his wrestle back against Ben Williamson from North Central. Harsh was defeated in next match and finished the season 13-15.
Wedepohl dropped his opening match, but won a thrilling match, a sudden victory over Michael Gallagher 3-1. Wedepohl was not able to keep up the momentum and lost his following match. Wedepohl finished 30-12 on the season.
The Pioneers were able to score 5.0 points and finished in 39th place. On Thursday, the Pioneers were also honored with a Scholar All-Academic Team Award for their team average GPA. Goetz and Wedepohl also earned individual Academic All American honors.
UW-Platteville concluded the 2016-2017 season in a positive way, sending four wrestlers to Nationals, which is the second most in UW-Platteville history.
